Emmeline Hawthorne

Counsellor

Life can be overwhelming sometimes and joy can feel far away. When we are able to understand what we feel and why, we grow in resilience and self-awareness. This enhanced self-knowledge improves our capacity to take decisions and actions that are more aligned with our authentic needs. In this process of self-discovery and change, I support you to deepen your sense of integration and strengthen your sense of self. I work with individuals in my private practice.

I see people with a wide range of issues including:

  • grief
  • trauma
  • anxiety
  • depression
  • stress/overwhelm
  • relationship issues
  • climate anxiety
  • addiction
  • body image
  • dating, childlessness and single life
  • working in creative industries

Counselling Services

If you feel isolated in your difficulties or lacking support and understanding, seeing a counsellor can really help. Working collaboratively and respectfully, we can explore your experiences and find beneficial new ways for you to approach your life.

Counselling Approach

Relational stance: I am a very empathic person who prioritises developing an honest and compassionate atmosphere for our work together. Creating a space where you can fully explore your feelings, your hopes and disappointments is my primary aim. A rapport built on trust will enable us to clarify and navigate your unique pathway of discovery, growth and change.

Background and Experience

My training consists of two disciplines, Social Practice and Psychotherapy Skills. My approach appreciates how our early lives shape our expectations and patterns, whilst also acknowledging the power that societal discourses have on our sense of self.

My first occupation was as an actor which gives me personal experience of the creative process and the challenges of working in the arts. I am involved in on-going climate crisis focused group work and have a strong grasp of the impact of this issue on mental health. I am available to facilitate groups to navigate our changing climate.

My counselling experience includes working with people who are healing from all forms of abuse, who are working through their addictions and who are healing their relationships with their body.  I have experience with people from diverse backgrounds and all walks of life.

I am a Pākehā New Zealander who lives in Auckland.
