Allanah Casey Psychology

Clinical Psychologist

Hi, I’m Allanah. I see my role as helping clients to identify both what is and isn’t working well for them in their lives, and to support them to change the things that aren’t working.

Throughout the course of our lives we will all have experiences that challenge our wellbeing, whether that’s a specific mental health problem or adjustment to difficult life events. These ups and downs are a normal part of living, not something you should feel ashamed about or have to manage alone. Talking to someone outside of your situation and learning tools tailored to you to help cope well can make a big difference.

I work with people to manage and overcome a range of challenges. Most commonly I work with people on:

  • Anxiety, stress, overwhelm and burnout
  • Depression and low mood
  • Managing difficult thoughts and emotions
  • Traumatic experiences and post traumatic stress
  • Interpersonal and relationship problems
  • Adjustment to difficult life events (such as grief and loss, separation, or change of significant life roles, e.g. becoming a parent or retirement)
  • Workplace issues

I am passionate about women’s wellbeing, and a lot of my work is in supporting women through turbulent periods of their lives, including challenges such as:

  • Peri and post natal mental health
  • Fertility struggles
  • Pregnancy loss
  • Traumatic experiences related to pregnancy and birth
  • Adjustment to parenthood and changes to identity
  • Managing perimenopausal and menopausal mental health (e.g., fatigue, anxiety, low mood, concentration problems)

Therapy approach

I use a range of psychological therapies to get the best fit for each of my clients. My approach is informed by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectic Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Solution-Focused Therapy and Positive Psychology.

I bring authenticity and a sense of humour to my work as a psychologist. Therapy can be hard work, and I know that coming to talk to a stranger about things you’re struggling with can be both hard to do, and feel a bit weird! I always aim to create a space where you can feel as safe and comfortable as possible, and where we work collaboratively together.

Supervision

I also offer professional supervision to other mental health and allied health professionals. Regular supervision helps to prioritise and proactively maintain your wellbeing, recognising that supporting others is often demanding work and can lead to conflict, burnout, and compassion fatigue. In supervision sessions I create a self-reflective space to help you review and learn from tricky experiences, to identify the things you do well in supporting others, as well to notice areas for growth and build skills to improve.
