Counselling/Therapy Services

I offer the opportunity for us to explore the connections between the current difficulties you are facing and your usual ways of coping. I will work with you to further understand the underlying reasons for the issues you are having in your life and relationships. Our exploration will be a partnership, opening up your choices in order to live a fuller, more satisfying life.

I offer longer and shorter term work, depending on the nature of the issue you would like to discuss.

Non-mobile babies welcome.

Couples Therapy

I have training in both Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples and Gottman Method Couples Therapy. I can help you to think about what makes relationships work well and to learn to manage your conflicts and arguments more effectively. Together we’ll look at where you are getting stuck. I have a particular focus on learning how to de-escalate conflicts through making repairs. My focus on increasing relationship satisfaction extends into everyday aspects of couple interaction, through building, repairing and enhancing your friendship and love. I can also help you explore your shared meaning system, what it means to be creating and living a life together.

Counselling/Therapy Approach

My therapeutic approach is psychodynamic psychotherapy, assisting you to explore the significance and influence of your past life events on your current experiences and difficulties.

I will listen actively, helping you to talk about what is going on for you. I am supportive, whilst challenging in my belief in the possibility for change and growth. I am respectful, especially of your confidentiality.

Background and Experience

Prior to training as a psychotherapist I worked with new mothers, both in the context of transition to motherhood and with mothers who were experiencing depression and anxiety around the birth of their baby. For two years of my clinical training I was on placement as a psychotherapist with a DHB maternal mental health service.

I currently work with a diverse range of people in private practice.
