Asrita Singh

Counsellor

Hello, my name is Asrita (pronounced ‘As-Reeta’). It’s nice to meet you! I was born in the beautiful island of Fiji and identify culturally as a Kiwi-Fijian-Indian.

I am a licensed therapist with over 13 years of clinical and cultural experience working with young people, adults and whānau from many walks of life.  I am also a registered yoga, mindfulness and meditation teacher. I have found joy and fulfilment working from a holistic perspective incorporating talk therapy, mindfulness, meditation and somatic movement as I journey with individuals and groups through their story, supporting them towards their destination.

I believe we as people exist as mind, body and spirit, and working from this perspective of the ‘whole’ self creates for you a safe space for self-enquiry and to bring forth that ‘wholeness’ that lives deep within you.

I consider my approach to be holistic, inclusive of minority cultural communities, strengths-based and collaborative. Journey on if you would like to know more about me and the services I offer.  Please also have a read through the FAQ section on my website.

Q APPROACH & SPECIALITIES

The holistic approach is strengths-based, inclusive, and collaborative.

I will consider all your uniqueness: your individual characteristics and identity, needs, strengths, physical and cognitive abilities, spiritual beliefs, cultural background, and motivations in my approach. I will attend to what’s happening in your thoughts, feelings and body and draw on a range of effective techniques, tailored to you.

My unique way of working mixes traditional therapeutic theories with cutting-edge, evidence-based techniques into a style that feels relatable, down to earth and compassionate. I blend elements of neuroscience, mindfulness, talk therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and body based/somatic therapy

My approach is also trauma-informed which means I’m thinking about the survival strategies you have adopted in response to what has happened in your life.
