Therapy Services

I’m an experienced art therapist who has worked in different countries and in a variety of settings. I have found art to be an effective medium with my clients, especially when working pre and non-verbally. So many of our thoughts and emotions we struggle to put into words. Through the process of art-making and triangulation, clients are able to recognise their unconscious communication and behaviour in a non-threatening way. Art can also be a way of recording clients’ progress throughout therapy and this evidence can be useful for both clients and therapist.

Sometimes we don’t quite know what drives our behaviours despite our best attempts at making sense of them. Or we may find ourselves unable to answer questions of life that seemed so pertinent to us, such as when something ‘bad’ happens to us and we wonder why; or when nothing ‘bad’ is happening to us and we wonder why we aren’t happy, etc. Depth psychology can be very useful in bringing light to these unconscious contents.

Therapy Approach

My training is in psychodynamic psychotherapy. Based on my personal inclination, I work largely from a Jungian framework. With individuation as the goal of psychotherapy, I believe in guiding clients to understand themselves better so that they can identify patterns and ways of coming to terms with them that is syntonic to themselves.

Background and Experience

I have worked in both Singapore and New Zealand as an art therapist. In Singapore, my first job was with the Institute of Mental Health in the Dangerous and Violent ward within forensic mental health. I then worked for The Red Pencil, a humanitarian NGO, offering art psychotherapy to clients with sexual and physical abuse, war zone PTSD, poverty, suicide prevention, conduct disorder and family members with incarcerated loved ones. In New Zealand, I worked for the Department of Corrections, helping clients understand themselves better so they can move on to a better life.

Supervision Services

I offer supervision for therapists and art therapists who may need a space to discuss and make sense of their cases. With the optional added tool of art-making, the supervision session can be used to allow a deeper understanding to emerge.

Q How do I know if (art) psychotherapy is right for me?

Psychotherapy differs from other short term, solution focused therapy in that it is a form of depth psychology and is designed to create lasting effects and changes in your life by having a thorough analysis of your life as a whole.

It is concerned with balancing the unconscious and conscious life - exploring images and artworks, dreams and symbols, behaviours and relational patterns for contents that may be outside of our awareness. These insights help you reframe your engagement with yourself and the world around you.
