I embrace the opportunity to work therapeutically with people, exploring their lives and reflecting on issues together, with the aim of transformation and growth through change. Together we will work towards increased meaning, joy and purpose in one’s life and increased fulfilment, connection and resilience in relationships.
I provide workplace Employment Assistance Programme (EAP) through Vitae and Raise.
Counselling can enable healing at a time when the emotional connection between you both feels lost, after an affair has occurred, or when grief has impacted your relationship, such as the loss of someone close. Couples counselling can help you to resolve long-standing issues in your marriage or relationship, bring joy back into your life together, and increase intimacy. Research has shown that Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples (EFT) is a highly effective for couples and individuals experiencing relationship distress, and this is the method in which I am trained and have been practicing for the last 15 years.
There are times in everybody’s life where having someone to listen, support and suggest strategies and help you to understand both your behaviour and the behaviour of others can make the world of difference. Using psychodynamic therapy principles, Mindfulness, Transactional Analysis, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), I prioritise the relationship between the client and the therapist, focusing on providing a safe and non-judgemental environment where people can explore their concerns. This provides the opportunity to gain new tools and understanding, in order to manage difficulties and make positive changes in your life.
Using compassion, kindness, and sometimes humour, to facilitate this guided-discovery process, I focus on the whole self, lifestyle balance (using Te Whare Tapa Wha) and developing a person’s ability to cope, make new choices, and bring about change in their life. Focusing on the relationship between the client and the therapist, I prioritise providing a safe and non-judgemental environment where people can explore their concerns.
I have a warm, positive and affirmative approach which facilitates working with clients at their own pace in either short term or long term work. This provides the opportunity to gain new tools and understanding, in order to manage difficulties and make positive changes in their lives.
Since my counselling training over thirty years ago, I have worked in government agencies (including prisons), community organisations and my own private practice, honing my skills and knowledge through my work with clients, and regular supervision.
I completed my three-year training in psychotherapy with the Wellington Transactional Analysis Training Institute, and advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples. I keep up to date with current research and trends by attending seminars and lectures by international experts.
Prior to counselling, I practised as an artist, specialising in ceramics and large sculptures. I created many Community Art projects where I shared my enthusiasm, knowledge and creativity with others.
