Claire Miranda

Psychotherapist and Group Therapist

Registered psychotherapist and Group Therapist working in Wellington CBD.

I offer both individual and group psychotherapy in a confidential and safe setting. I specialise in using mindfulness and talking therapy to help with relationship issues, addictions, loss and trauma.

Individual Work

When you are at a turning point in your life, talking to the right person can really make a difference. Psychotherapists have an empathic ear, trained to listen and understand. Just having the experience of being listened to and understood can alleviate some of your distress, which is the first level of talking therapy.

Going further, psychotherapy provides a unique space to open up your thinking about your life and relationships, a process that is transformative and enriching.

My primary modality is psychodynamic psychotherapy. How we relate in the therapy gives insights to other relationships in your life. The work is alive and present although you may make links back to your earliest relationships and how they colour your world today.

The other modalities I use are somatic psychotherapy and EMDR. Observing how the body and mind are responding in the present moment gives you the chance to notice the assumptions by which you may be confined. Somatic Psychotherapy has at its core concepts of gentleness, nonviolence, compassion and mindfulness. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) allows you to process traumatic memories that leave you stuck with unwanted strong reactions to everyday situations.

“Therapy is first about discovering. It’s about who you are and about what your deepest emotional attitudes are. It’s not just about who you think you are. It’s not opinion. It’s not something you can know with the intellect. It’s about who you are in the very heart of yourself. That’s the flavor of psychotherapy, discovering yourself, discovering your real attitudes toward the most important pieces of your life.”

Group Analytic Psychotherapy

Would you like to understand how you relate to other people better?  Group Analytic Psychotherapy is a supportive and enlightening way of doing that.

Analytic groups act as a mirror of how we act in relationship with other people that we are usually unconscious of.  As the group develops a pattern of interacting with each other, we will be able to observe and discuss that dynamic. This is called “process work” and is the magic of group analytic psychotherapy.

You can expect to have enormous growth from a well functioning process group.  To have a well-functioning process group you are invited to share what is on your mind, in your feelings, a little more than you would with a group of friends.

An initial interview at no charge is offered to talk about group work and both of us assess if group work would be a good fit for you.

What are the most important pieces of your life? You could have:

  • Improved love relationships
  • Satisfaction and joy from parenting
  • A sense of aliveness and happiness day to day
  • Inner peace
  • More satisfying friendships
  • A rewarding career
  • Time for fun and play
  • Connect with your purpose in life
