Crista Schorr-Kon

Registered Psychotherapist

Knowing yourself is empowering.  If you’re struggling, then building self-awareness is the building block of change or acceptance. I work with you on understanding yourself – both in and out of your relationships. I also supervise people in the health professions; mental health, nursing, social work etc. I only see individuals.

I see people with a wide range of issues including:

  • stress/overwhelm
  • anxiety
  • depression
  • self-worth
  • grief
  • social isolation
  • mistrust
  • trauma
  • mid-life transitions
  • parenting children with special needs
  • relationship issues
  • separations and divorce

Counselling/Therapy Services

If you are frustrated with repeating old patterns of behaving and feeling, then psychotherapy can make a big difference to your life. I am also interested in helping people make meaning of themselves and their lives. Working on a deeper level provides permanent change.

Counselling/Therapy Approach

Relational psychotherapy: I am a warm and open person and aim to provide an environment in which we can build trust. Here we take time to understand the root causes, what is going on and what is going wrong. The psychotherapeutic relationship enables you to see things from a new perspective and make different choices.

Background and Experience

My work as a psychotherapist mostly involves working with people in private practice. I have a special interest in working with men of any age however I equally enjoy working with women. Another interest I have is working with disability – I previously worked at Parent 2 Parent supporting parents of children with disabilities.

I also trained at Family Action, Te Atatu working with trauma – domestic violence and sexual abuse; AUT Psychotherapy Clinic; and my private practice, working with depression, anxiety, OCD, relationship difficulties and general overwhelm.

My dissertation topic was Intuition as I am interested in the things we sense and know about each other without being told.

I am a New Zealander who spent my early adulthood living overseas in different cultures.
