I offer you a safe, supportive and confidential place where together we can explore the difficulties or concerns you are experiencing.
It is often in the unravelling of our stories, in the presence of another, that we gain new awareness and understandings about ourselves, the challenges facing us and what might be most supportive.
You may be having difficulties in your relationship/s, feeling hurt, confused or overwhelmed by circumstances or life events, struggling to know how to be with challenges you face, wanting more from life or curious to understand yourself more fully. If so therapy may be of interest to you.
Therapy helps develop self awareness and understanding of events, feelings, beliefs and patterns of thinking and behaving, both known and unknown to you, that support or hinder your way of being in the world. Enhanced awareness increases your choice-fullness and ability to respond to yourself, others and events, in ways that offer greater fulfilment and satisfaction.
Short term therapy, or counselling, can assist you in creating greater understanding of specific, and often current or recent, events or problems affecting you. Longer term therapy, or psychotherapy, can be useful in exploring problems that are more persistent, life themes or events that appear to keep occurring and past experiences that continue to affect the way you experience life.
Gestalt Therapy, which draws on humanistic, existential and client-centred approaches, forms the foundation from which I practice. I am also influenced by developmental theories, psychodynamics and relational approaches to therapy.
I value the importance of connection and the premise that we exist, grow and develop in relation to others and our experiences, past and present. I invite a collaborative approach in which we focus on your present experience with the opportunity to explore the ways in which you relate with your surroundings, which includes yourself, others and events that occur. Past experiences are acknowledged for the influence they may have in shaping how you currently connect with self, others and your environment.
I have enjoyed over 15 years working as a counselor and psychotherapist. During this time I have worked in a variety of settings including Kapiti Women’s Centre, Wesley Inner City Counselling Service, EAP Services, Central Region Eating Disorder Service and Private Practice. My experience includes working with a diverse range of individuals, ages 18+, from varying cultures and backgrounds in both short term and long term therapy.
