Currently accepting new clients.

My specialty areas

As a registered psychologist with over twenty years’ experience, areas I can assist you with include:

  • Managing ADHD in the workplace and in life.
  • Stress, anxiety, depression, and anger.
  • Navigating difficult workplace situations and relationships.
  • Sleep difficulties.
  • Career challenges.
  • Talking through difficult life and work decisions, and finding a way forward.

Reaching out for support can be hard, but it’s worthwhile. If you’d like to explore working with me, please feel very welcome to contact me for a brief phone consultation at no charge or obligation. I’d be glad to help.

Support for ADHD

I have a special focus on supporting people with ADHD.  Depending on what you’d most like to work on, the types of skills we can focus on developing include:

  • Focusing and refocusing attention.
  • Overcoming problems with starting and/or finishing tasks.
  • Getting past procrastination.
  • Goal setting and action planning.
  • Organisational and time management skills.
  • Managing impulsivity.
  • Improving sleep.
  • Listening and other interpersonal skills.
  • Managing difficult thoughts and feelings (e.g. the harsh self-criticisms that often go along with ADHD).

You don’t need a formal diagnosis of ADHD – I’m very happy to support anyone who wants to work on these skills.

My approach

My aim is to work with you as a team, so that you feel heard and understood. My approach is practical, supportive, and solution-focused. If our work together is successful, it will equip you with skills that will last you a lifetime.

It’s important to me that the support I provide is grounded in evidence, so that you can be confident it’s likely to help. As such, I primarily practice Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Solution-Focused Coaching. ACT is a recent evolution of cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), which incorporates and adapts many traditional CBT techniques. Solution-Focused Coaching is a brief, pragmatic approach which is very helpful for addressing immediate issues.

My background

I first studied CBT at Victoria University of Wellington, where for my PhD in psychology I studied how anxiety and depression shape our perceptions and memories. I’ve since completed further specialist training and supervised practice in ACT, Solution-Focused Coaching, and working with ADHD.

My work as a psychologist has included working with hundreds of people from all walks of life, from students to people in frontline roles to chief executives.

My research into anxiety and depression has been widely cited by other researchers. My popular writing for Psychology Today has also been referenced by Forbes magazine and numerous other authors. I’ve also trained in the martial arts for over seventeen years, which has given me personal experience of using psychological skills to overcome demanding challenges.
