Dr Karen Faisandier

Clinical Psychologist

I love to get to know my clients story and concerns well and then work together to tailor a plan that helps enhance their health and vitality and achieve their goals.

Work Experience

After several years working in a hospital-based addiction and mental health service, I’ve worked since 2016 in private practice in the heart of the Wellington CBD. My interest area and expertise is in helping people recover from chronic stress, burnout, or traumatic stress and difficult relationships by working with the gut-brain connection, and integrating nutritional and lifestyle interventions (dietary change and micronutrient supplementation) alongside traditional and modern psychology therapies. I also enjoy supporting people who have not experienced a safe or secure childhood to create secure adult relationships and heal from the effects of trauma or abuse.

Therapy Approach

I’m trained in various evidence based therapies that I draw upon including cognitive behavioural therapy, mindfulness-based therapy, and trauma reprocessing therapy (EMDR). My doctoral research was on Attachment Theory and knowledge of this powerful system is a foundation for my work. I have also studied Nutritional & Environmental Medicine to learn about effective nutritional and lifestyle interventions. I love to learn and am constantly reading about the latest ideas on topics to do with holistic health and wellbeing.

Working Together

I find that my approach works best when people already have an openness to using a holistic approach to their health and wellbeing. Working with me is most likely to be right for you if you are an adult (18+) living in New Zealand and if you have both physical health (e.g., gut health, hormonal health, autoimmune, chronic fatigue) and mental health concerns.

Please feel free to contact me to explore how my service can be of assistance to your needs and situation, and to ask any questions before booking. I manage my own bookings personally and will generally respond within one week of making contact to let you know about my next available appointment.
