I understand that seeking counselling can be a difficult decision, and I hope to create a safe and non-judgmental space where you feel heard, understood, and supported. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is crucial for the success of counselling, so I prioritise building a trusting and collaborative relationship. Pluralistically trained, I draw on different counselling modalities with the aim to empower you to find your own solutions and make meaningful changes.
My therapeutic style is grounded in the belief that each person has their own unique experiences and perspectives, and I work collaboratively to understand your worldview. I invite and welcome clients from all backgrounds and identities.
I’m Teresa, I am Khmer/Pākeha, and my pronouns are she/her.
I was born and raised in Te Awakairangi (Lower Hutt), where I still reside with my teen and primary-aged children, husband, and our extended whānau (multigenerational living!).
My mum arrived in Aotearoa as a refugee from Cambodia in the early 80s. I grew up with a small handful of whānau who survived the Pol Pot regime. The experiences that I’ve heard and the experiences I’ve lived led me to pursue the counselling vocation.
My personal experiences as a parent, a person of mixed ethnicity, and someone who has faced trauma hold great value to me. They enrich my practice and understanding of the many intersections within society that affect our lives in different ways.

- I offer a limited number of reduced fee sessions, please enquire.
This first session is an opportunity to ask questions, and for us to talk about whether you think we could work well together. It’s important to me that you find a counsellor you connect with. If that’s not me, I will try to recommend someone else. I'll ask questions to better understand why you're seeking counselling, what issues you want to address, and what goals you hope to achieve through counselling.
