The experience of feeling fully heard and unconditionally accepted can make a fundamental difference to who we are. Psychotherapy can build a lasting inner security, trust and authenticity from which to live our lives.
I work with people needing help with a specific problem or phase they are encountering, as well as those seeking fundamental inner change, or long-term support.
Psychotherapy can help clarify what is happening and what is needed. Sometimes we just need to know we are not alone and that there is someone to listen to us.
Other times, we might need to go deeper and understand the unconscious motives that are driving us and keeping us stuck in outdated patterns of behaviour. By working both in the here and now, and at times making links to the past, psychotherapy can help us to make sense of ourselves and our lives, ultimately leading to a richer and freer experience of the life we are living.
My approach is relational, collaborative and integrative. I offer face to face conversation, the use of a couch (lying down) and expressive style psychotherapy, which includes attention to aspects such as breath, sensation and improvised movement. Whatever the form of communication that most suits you (and it may change over time), we can work together to discover what are your core challenges and what it is you need to move through these challenges.
Just as importantly, we ask what are your unique strengths, abilities and inner resources. We explore what it is that holds you back, but also, what is it that you are going towards? What are your hopes and aspirations? What is it that you want from this one precious life?
I am a Registered Psychotherapist (PBANZ). I have worked in various mental health agencies over the past 9 years including, Segar House, AUT Integrated Health, Cornwell House and AUT Psychotherapy Clinic. Over this time I have worked with people with a range of issues, including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, parenting issues, emotional dysregulation, sexual abuse and trauma.
I am also an Open Floor Movement teacher (Open Floor International), and qualified Massage therapist. Personal experience has led me to believe that there is enormous power and intelligence in our embodied self. My work is steeped in 20 years of embodiment practices: 5 Rhythms dance, holistic bodywork, contact improvisation, meditation and yoga.
