Redefine Counselling

Redefine…

There can be times in our lives when we are experiencing greater challenges, and we need additional support. There are also times in our life when we reflect on our past to find a new way forward. You can see your thoughts, behaviours and beliefs from a differing vantage point. This allows you to consider options which can help you manage your current situation, and make life more meaningful and fulfilling.

Counselling/Therapy Services

I provide:

  • A setting where through questioning and reflection, you can feel understood and accepted
  • I help you develop a greater understanding of your relationships with others and how to improve them
  • A place where you can recognise your strengths and build upon them
  • Through my knowledge and further understanding of your situation, we can spot the resources you may need to support you
  • Help you create a new perspective of your future and develop  ways you can achieve it

Counselling/Therapy Approach

I use a range of modalities including person-centred, narrative, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Te Whare Tapa Wha. I will match the modalities I use according to your needs and preferences where possible.

I will :

  • Help you explore your world in an environment where you will feel accepted and understood.
  • Acknowledge that your experiences have created your world, how you’ve made sense of those experiences, and expand that understanding
  • Build on your abilities to cope with emotions and life’s experiences
  • Develop a greater understanding of your relationships with others
  • See you holistically and assist you in understanding how your physical, mental, spiritual, and social supports impact you and, therefore, how to find balance in your life
  • Explore your underlying values and how you may benefit from being aligned with them
  • Examine how your thoughts, emotions, and behaviour interconnect and how they can be adjusted to make changes in your life

Background and Experience

I believe connections are paramount for all humans. My life and my roles have centred around listening and caring for others since I was a teenager.

For almost the past decade, my counselling work has included: working in schools, tertiary institutions, working within NGOs with a wide range of clients and working on crisis helplines. I have experience working with young children, teenagers, mothers, adults, and the elderly. This experience with a wide range of ages informs my practice with adults. As a result of these experiences, I can get along with a wide variety of individuals from various genders and cultures.

I am a lifelong learner, always gaining new knowledge about my profession. Specifically, my formal education is in client-centred, Narrative and CBT, as well as training in grief & loss, depression, attachment and anxiety.  My interest include  ADHD and supporting families/friends of those with mental illness.

I have experience in phone counselling, online counselling and in person but I will currently see clients online.

I am a full member of the NZAC,  which means I am guided by and held accountable to ethical standards and must undertake continuing professional development.
