Anyone who works in a professional care role or supports people through all forms of loss and grief. Our content is applicable to a wide variety of professions including counsellors, social workers, teachers, emergency response teams, medical, corrections, mental health, hospice, volunteers, caregivers and more.
Addiction is a complex and impactful issue that affects people, their families, and communities across Aotearoa. While counsellors may not work directly in addiction treatment, many of their clients will have been impacted by addiction – whether through their own experiences or as a loved one. Understanding addiction is important for counsellors who support people navigating grief, trauma, and mental health issues that are intertwined with addiction.
This webinar will provide an overview of addiction, covering the biology of addiction, current drug trends in Aotearoa, and the connection between addiction and trauma. It will also explore the importance of trauma-informed practice when working with clients with addiction issues, and introduce best-practice interventions, including brief interventions, that can be integrated into counselling settings. By deepening understanding of addiction, counsellors will be better equipped to provide informed, compassionate support to clients with addiction issues.
