I believe there is strength in vulnerability and by seeking support, you are tapping into that inner strength. It’s the first step on the road to change and healing.  When you show up for yourself, or your loved one, you initiate the momentum into wellness and a happier, more fulfilled life.

There are many reasons why people seek support in the form of therapy and counselling.  Perhaps you have suffered a grievance or trauma, have had trouble with key relationships in your life, or feel your own mental wellbeing needs a little (or a lot) of assistance to get back on track.  Whatever your reason for seeking support, please know I will show up with genuine compassion and a willingness to meet your needs effectively.  I will always provide a safe and confidential space for you and provide useful tools and strategies for use beyond our sessions.

Background & Experience

I have worked with young people from an early age, volunteering at my local Kindergarten as a student and teaching ballet and contemporary dance to young people throughout my teens.  I am a fully registered, Primary-trained teacher and have taught across the curriculum, in a variety of socio-economic areas.

Following this, I gained my counselling education while also raising a young family of my own.  I still currently work part-time as a counsellor in a secondary school, supporting vulnerable young people.  I have also completed my Masters research regarding parenting during a pandemic and hold reverence for the crucial role of parents and caregivers.

If you have a young person in your life who is struggling with anxiety, depression, eating disorders, body image issues, phobias, bullying, self-esteems, identity issues, lack of direction/motivation, challenges managing family dynamics, or other related issues, I would be happy to support them.   Equally, if you are an adult with any of the above issues, I would be able to support you fully with these.

I also have experience in working with grief and loss and providing compassionate support in navigating this difficult time.

Counselling Approach

My approach is client-centred , meaning I will assess your specific requirements and tailor my approach to your needs.  I always ground my work in solid research-based theory and specialise in Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness, Internal Family Systems (IFS) and trauma-informed approach Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI).  I am committed to the principles of Te Tiriti O Waitangi and honour the cultural background and experiences of each client I encounter.

As a recent Masters student at the University of Auckland I understand a range of effective modalities in the counselling profession and engage with relevant professional development to enrich my practice.  I also have regular professional supervision, ensuring safe and effective practice.

I can offer support for individuals struggling with intrusive thoughts and feelings resulting in detrimental behaviours through psycho-education and carefully formulated care plans.  These include values-based approaches to addressing rumination, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

I am thoroughly invested in supporting you to make the necessary shifts to become the most authentic, fulfilled version of yourself. I do have limited availability, so please get in touch as soon as possible to schedule an appointment. I look forward to journeying alongside you.

Ngā mihi nui,

Nicole
