Rose Allan Counselling

About me

Kia ora koutou. My name is Rose Allan. I was born in Feilding and live in Palmerston North. I have worked as a counsellor in the Manawatu over the past 20 years. I have three adult children, and two granddaughters.

I have had extensive experience working in community organizations, providing counselling for individuals, couples and children (12 years and over), and facilitating group programs.

In my work as a counselor, I am interested in, and committed to, making it possible for individuals, couples, and children to speak about issues that are important to them. I believe that counselling provides an opportunity for conversations that support people through change.

My own life’s journey has taught me the importance of  talking through problems and pain, and supported my belief that each of us have within ourselves the skills and knowledges to live rich and meaningful lives.

Philosophy

People choose to come to counselling for many reasons. Some people come in response to difficulties or problems which cause feelings of stress, confusion, sadness, anxiety, loneliness or anger. Some people come because they are interested in addressing difficulties in relationships. Some people come if they have experienced violence, trauma, abuse, depression or grief. Others come to focus on hopes and dreams.

I believe that counselling conversations can help to identify and reinterpret the stories that people carry with them, bringing forward new ways of being in relationship to pain and problems.

Through conversation we share knowledge and explore ideas that construct different ways of living and being in relationship with people, pain and problems. We identify problems and how these affect your life and relationships. We explore stories which identify your strengths and knowledges to help you to work for positive change in your life.

My practice is informed by Narrative Therapy. Narrative Therapy is an approach that is vitally interested in the unique skills and knowledge that each person develops in the course of their lives.
