Sandi Clapperton

Trauma and Somatic Therapy

I am a dedicated counsellor with 14 years of experience in supporting individuals through some of life’s most challenging moments—whether it’s overcoming trauma, navigating grief, managing anxiety, significant life changes, mental health challenges, women’s health, personal growth or finding hope in the face of addiction.  My approach is grounded in empathy, authenticity, somatic work and a deep commitment to empowering you to live a healthier, more fulfilling life. I will create a safe and confidential space for you to journey into deeper connection with yourself and those around you.

I believe that healing isn’t just about talking through problems; it’s about nurturing every part of you, finding balance, and building resilience in a way that feels right for you. I am especially committed to creating a culturally sensitive, trauma-informed environment, where your unique experiences and background are honored.

Having worked closely with diverse communities, including Māori and Pacifica, I strive to ensure that our work together respects your values and supports your journey in a meaningful, personalized way. If you’re looking for a counsellor who listens with empathy, supports with kindness, and provides a calm presence in times of uncertainty, I’m here for you. Together, we can find your path forward, one step at a time.

I have managed crisis teams for the last 5 years alongside my clinic and have worked in many settings including NGO’s, refuges, prisons and mental health respite spaces. Now focusing on my own clinic and supervision for counsellors and other health professionals.

Why Choose Me?

Finding the right counsellor is a deeply personal decision, and what sets me apart is my unique combination of experience, empathy, and a holistic approach that goes beyond traditional therapy.

With over 14 years of hands-on experience in mental health, trauma recovery, and addiction counselling, I am deeply committed to helping you heal, grow, and reclaim control over your life.

A Holistic, Mind-Body Approach.

What makes my counselling practice stand out is my focus on the whole person—mind, body, and spirit. I integrate traditional counselling with somatic therapy to address trauma and emotions stored in the body. This unique approach helps you release tension, restore balance, and find true inner peace, creating a deeper and more lasting healing experience.

Culturally Sensitive and Trauma-Informed Care.

I understand that healing is not one-size-fits-all. I’ve worked closely with Māori, Pacifica, and other culturally diverse communities, and my trauma-informed approach means I create a safe, non-judgmental space tailored to your unique needs. I respect your story, your values, and your journey, ensuring that you feel heard, understood, and empowered throughout the process.

Real-World Experience in High-Pressure Environments

My extensive experience includes managing crisis teams, working in mental health respite, and providing support in high-stakes environments like prisons and refuges. This gives me the insight and skills to guide you through even the most complex or challenging situations. I know how to remain calm and steady, providing grounded and compassionate care when it matters most.

Flexible and Accessible Care.

I offer both in-person and online sessions, providing flexibility to fit your schedule and lifestyle. Whether you need a short-term solution or long-term therapeutic support, I’ll meet you where you are, ensuring you feel supported every step of the way.

Client-Centered Therapy.

You are at the heart of everything I do. My counselling process is guided by your goals and needs, not a one-size-fits-all approach. Together, we’ll co-create a path toward healing, empowerment, and personal growth that feels right for you.

Commitment to Your Long-Term Success.

I don’t just provide temporary relief—I focus on giving you the tools and strategies you need to thrive long after therapy. Whether you’re overcoming trauma, managing anxiety, or working through life’s toughest transitions, my goal is to help you build resilience and live a life that’s balanced, fulfilling, and meaningful.
