Simon Calder

Counsellor, Counselling Educator

Who am I?

I am a creative individual who enjoys stories, gaming and a wide range of other pop culture mediums as well as the outdoors. I am counsellor educator where I teach and supervise up and coming counsellors, as well as being a counsellor. I enjoy working with individuals and families around problematic gaming. I enjoy working with neurodiverse clients as I myself am neurodiverse (dyslexic) but also neurotypical too.

My Approach

I use a wide range of modalities: Narrative, Person-centered, and Geek therapy. Part of Geek therapy is using geek culture which may be video gaming, anime, or even mythologies; as part of a way to connect with our clients and their interests.  Part of my work is helping people identify and understand more of the problem stories (issues) that are affecting them. From there I seek to collaborate with my client to find a more preferred way that will help them continually to grow.

I sometimes work with the client’s parents if need be, just to ensure parents are aware of what they can do on their side to help. This must be agreed upon by the client first though.
