Tammy Dickinson – Psychotherapist

Therapy to meet your evolving needs

I practice relationally and aim to foster a collaborative relationship between us. Our therapy sessions will focus on relieving distress as well as improving your emotional resilience, hope, self-understanding and relationships. I am passionate about supporting people with a range of mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression and challenging family relationships. I offer both short and long-term therapy in person and, at times, on-line.

As therapy progresses, it’s likely you’ll gain a deeper self-understanding of yourself and start to feel increasingly at ease with yourself and others. Exploring, and reflecting on, your life experiences with curiosity and empathy in therapy starts a personal change process that can improve your mental wellbeing. I aim to meet your evolving mental health needs in my practice by drawing on a range of psychodynamic theories.

I work with adults aged from 18 to 80+ and I have a particular interest, and strength, in complex family dynamics as well as diverse cultural identities. My clinical experience also extends to working in Auckland DHB with older clients with chronic mental health challenges. Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked in corporate, non-profit and government organisations.

While Tāmaki Makaurau has been my home for the last 20+ years, I have explored much of the world. My extended family consists of people from four continents. My Masters’ dissertation focused on the lived experience of someone with the identity of an Adult Third Culture Kid. This is a community of people where children spend some of their developmental years living temporarily outside of their parents’ culture. This focused study enabled me to continue to nurture my strong interest in how life experience combines with culture, ethnic diversity and immigration to influence identity, relationships and ultimately mental wellbeing.

If this type of therapy sounds appealing to you, I look forward to having an opportunity to meet with you and potentially working together.
